I Love the Language Explosion

October 21, 2011

So A has been saying the same 10-ish words since she turned 1:

  • Mommy
  • Daddy
  • Lola
  • Kitty
  • Rachel
  • Dora (and sometimes Boots, Tico, Benny, and Isa)
  • All gone
  • Right there
  • Bye
  • Hi/Hey
  • Yay

Annnnnnd…. that’s about it.  I wasn’t much worried about it.  C was late to say ANYTHING (a full 18 months before she went past “uh oh”) and she never stops now.

And then the other night, Sean suddenly caught her counting to ten.

And today, she came home with a sticker on her daily sheet saying, “A is doing a GREAT job at her colors!”

So I opened a book with colors and started pointing.

“Puh-puul!”

“rEEn!”

“Boo!”

“Ehl-lo!”

“RED!”

“INK!”

About the only one she didn’t do was orange.  I was mega impressed.  I tried the ABC song since I know that usually comes along with this stuff, but all she did was get really excited and do this dance that looked like she was imitating a surfer.  Pretty sure she’ll have that soon too.  Next thing I know, she’ll be talking in sentences.  Interesting how these things go along so slowly and then come in spurts.
